Sarah is inspired by living in North Devon. She is currently working on large very detailed pen drawings of trees and woods in her area. These drawings show a fascination with line and tone as well as mood and history. In September 2010 Sarah will be lead artist at RHS Garden Rosemoor, showing large drawings of the gardens.

Sarah trained at The Slade School of Fine Art and then gained a PGSE as an art teacher. She worked for many years in a variety of schools teaching art and art history. Being luck enough to work full time as an artist now she is rediscovering her artistic roots, a love of drawing and of history. Currently her time is spent drawing large, detailed pieces with pen but she hopes to work on her other main interest of studying and recording the female effigies found in North Devon Churches and painting them in oils. This series is called “The Good Wives” for many reasons – principally because women were regarded as chattels of their husbands and only have a place in a church monument if they were good wives, obedient and quiet! Sarah hopes to show these pictures eventually with an explanatory booklet – to introduce people to the art history and ideas behind these images.
Sarah is an associate member of 14The gallery cooperative in Torrington and helps with exhibitions for North Devon Arts. She is keen to encourage and help others with their work and in getting it displayed and sold!
